Things we eat in Costa Rica

The typical Costa Rican (Tico) dish is rice, beans, a small salad or vegetable, your choice of meat (chicken, fish, pork, etc.), and some fried plantains. This is called a casado. Some places you go will have different variations with more or less. And every place you go has one, but they ALL taste different. I have yet to have one taste the same even though it's the same things. They usually run about 2000-3500 colones. Equating to $4-$7 per. It is really yummy.

Sometimes our friends from the bakery catch fish in the bay and cook up a tasty meal. You gotta be super careful with these fish though because the bones inside are like razors. Frank has been trying to catch fish, but they pretty much just jump in front of his line, steal his bait, and tease him.

We also eats LOTS of mangoes. They are soooo good here. Coconuts too! We drink the water inside, then eat the white "meat" on the inside. The kids love it!

We don't have an oven, so I'm always trying to think of ways to cook on the cheap and still have a good meal.

Are there any cheap, non-oven recipes you know of? Please share! =)
